News, Views and comment about Liverpool FC

The ex-Liverpool star Xabi Alonso has responded to the news that Steven Gerrard said he was “devastated” by Alonso’s move to Real Madrid.

Gerrard told FourFourTwo magazine last week: “Devastated, yeah. Devastated. But there was nothing I could do about it. Xabi said a long time ago that he wanted another chapter in his career and finally he got it and his team-mates and the coaches couldn’t stand in his way. We just have to say thanks and move forward without him.”

Alonso also thanked him in return, but said that he was now looking to the future with Real Madrid.

Alonso said: “I want to thank Stevie for his kind words but life goes on.

“It’s logical I miss Liverpool. I lived there five years and saw what football means to the supporters,”

“I’ve still got friends there. It was an unforgettable experience and I’ll always have the club in my heart,” he added.

“But I’m so happy at Real Madrid and I hope to do some important things here.”

You may be missing Liverpool, Xabi, but not as much as Liverpool is missing you!
