Benitez salutes his 10 men after huge win
The road back for Benitez is maybe a long one but he is certainly on track and yesterday’s win over Everton after we were down to 10 men confirms that at the very least we are heading in the right direction.
We now occupy 4th and are sitting quite pretty and without becoming over confident a loss for Arsenal today and a win for us over the Gunners on Wednesday and we will be just 2 points behind Arsenal
Not so gloomy now is it?
For his part Benitez recognised the importance of the win yesterday and more so because of the fact that we were down to 10 men saying
“It’s always important to win a derby, but to win a derby with 10 players at Anfield is even more important,” Benitez claimed.
“We did well from the very start and my players worked so hard.
“It’s a credit to us that Everton didn’t put us under much pressure in the second half because we played so well.
“Hopefully, we can now stay in and round fourth spot. There’s still a lot of games to go and it’s a long race.
“I think there were too many tackles to analyse and I prefer not to comment on the referee,
“You can talk about 20 different tackles and have different opinions. To keep everyone calm in a derby is almost impossible. Sometimes it’s difficult to play with your heads and your hearts.”
Good, at least he is now learning that he can achieve more without spouting off all the time, the more the gaffer concentrates on the football and less on mind games and such like the better we seem to perform.
