Benitez still looking for positives despite yet another defeat
The Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez saw his team concede yet another late goal to lose to Fiorentina last night, but is still trying to find some positives to focus on ahead of this weekends crucial League match against Arsenal.
“To see Aquilani and Torres were positives from this match,” Benitez said.
“I think it was clear today was a difficult game, but we conceded another goal in the last minute and we are really disappointed with the three late goals we have conceded in the competition.
“When you lose in this way, having worked so hard and had chances, the only positive is that maybe we will be more focused in future if necessary.
“But I don’t think we lack concentration. Tonight was a mistake and it’s something that can happen.”
He now just wants the team to prepare for the must-win game at home to Arsenal, and is hoping this game could be the turning point in Liverpool’s season.
“We know Arsenal is a very important game because we can be closer to the top of the table and one of our rivals,” he said. “It could be the beginning of new options and a new season.
“We have to be ready for the next game and that’s it. We have to be strong and prepared to win home and away.”
From last night’s disappointment, it is obvious that the team still haven’t quite turned the corner.
