Benitez to swoop for Pavlyuchenko in January?

The Tottenham and Russia striker Roman Pavlyuchenko is desperate to get away from Tottenham this January, as he is sick of being left on the bench by Harry Redknapp, and Liverpool are favourites to land him in January.

Rafael Benitez has made no secret of the fact that he needs a strike partner for Fernando Torres, and with the Liverpool board unlikely to release urgent transfer funds before next summer, Pavlyuchenko could provide the ideal solution if Redknapp lets him move on a loan arangement to start with, and the full payment to follow in June.

Pavlyuchenko was paraded as a marquee signing at Spurs when he arrived under Ramos, but since Harry Redknapp took over he has been passed in the pecking order by Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch, meaning that his chances are few and far between.

“I only sit on the bench for my club – I can only hope that January will bring changes in my life,” said Pavlyuchenko.

“I’ve never had such a black period in my life.”

A move to Liverpool would be perfect for both parties.
