Beware of the underdog in Europe

Underdogs in Europe are always dangerous the further you get in to a competition and Unirea will be no exception.

In fact Unirea are stronger than what some make them out to be having already beaten both Rangers and Seville this season and holding Stuttgart to a draw.

But even though Unirea are considered underdogs and one of Europe’s lesser known teams that does not mean that they will be taken lightly as Gerrard explains

“I’ve always found in Europe that Liverpool have more problems against less well-known teams because of the surprise factor,” said Gerrard “To play Liverpool is a big game for Unirea, and they’ll be looking for a big upset and will be very dangerous. But Rafa Benítez will make sure that the team is prepared.

“He does his homework. We’ll start by watching tapes of the opposition, and player profiles – he’ll go round the players individually. He doesn’t leave any stone unturned, and by the time that game comes around and we’re ready for kick-off, we’ll know their team inside out.”

Unirea are no mugs and Gerrard is spot on when he says that for a team like Unirea this is a huge game and with that does come the surprise factor.
