Bookies make Liverpool favourites for Europa League as Torres sets it as a goal for season
The Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has come out in favour of getting behind Rafael Benitez and buckling down to save Liverpool’s season.
He is sure that the club can still finish in the top four of the Premiership, and has set his sights on the FA Cup and the Europa League trophies now that the Champions League is no longer an option.
“We must be united to finish as high as possible in the Premier League. I am convinced that we will end up in the top four.” said Torres
“Nobody expected us to be knocked out because this team has shown itself over recent seasons to be very reliable.
“This is a competition that we won in 2005 and on another occasion 2007 we got to the final. Since I have been with the club we have got to a semi-final and a quarter-final.
“We also have high hopes for the FA Cup and the Europa League. At this time, this tournament has become a goal for the club.”
The bookies have also got on the bandwagon and most of them have made Liverpool the 6/1 favourites for the competition, although you can get up to 8/1 if you shop around.
Shakhtar Donetsk are the 10/1 second favourites, and there is a group consisting of Benfica, Valencia, Roma, Werder Bremen and Hamburg all around 14/1, with 20/1 and upwards for any other club. Everton are currently 25/1.
