Benitez has confirmed that we are talking with Sunderland in the hope of signing Kenwyne Jones on a permanent basis.

The rumours it seems were very true after all, though in all fairness we said this just the other day when Sunderland manager Steve Bruce went in to his childish rant.

Benitez himself is not getting involved in the discussion saying

“I was not dealing with this, Christian Purslow has been talking with Niall Quinn so they have to manage the situation because I was not doing anything.

“I prefer not to talk too much because we will create a debate so Christian and Niall will continue to talk if they need to talk. They were in contact but I don’t know what the situation is now.”

Unless something dramatic happens it looks like Jones will be a Red before the transfer window closes.
