FA will not punish Ngog for dive
The Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez will be relieved to hear that he will not be losing David Ngog to suspension after his much-criticized dive against Birmingham.
The FA have announced that they have no power to punish the Liverpool striker after the referee had a clear view of the event, but the ref’s boss Keith Hackett has said he will be having a chat with Peter Walton to discuss the matter.
“FIFA state that if a referee has seen an incident then nothing can be done after the event,” he said.
“UEFA tried to punish Eduardo at Arsenal, which was stopped upon appeal and that shows just how difficult it is to prove.”
“I will be sitting down with Peter on a one-to-one basis, and as a group.” said Hackett.
“We will go through what he could have done to avoid this error.
“I need to look at various TV views of the incident to look at the position of the referee.
“I know Peter Walton very well and he will be upset when he views the DVD of this decision.”
“Nobody in the game supports the act of simulation.
“The managers are working very, very hard to cut this out and I know from speaking to them that they abhor this type of behaviour.
“However, players do go down and that puts pressure on referees.”
With the injuries and suspensions already taking a massive toll on Rafael Benitez’s side, he will be grateful that there will be no further action against Ngog.
