News, Views and comment about Liverpool FC

Liverpool have an unbelievably long injury list at the moment, and it looks like they will be without Fernando Torres as well as other first team players including Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Ryan Babel, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano for tomorrow’s match against Debrecen.

Luckily the Reds are not going to face the French giants Lyon, whereas Fiorentina will be playing them without their two main strikers of Adrian Mutu and Steven Jovetic, who have already scored five Champions League goals between them this season.

The Viola are now likely to play with just one striker in the shape of Alberto Gilardino as they try to gain at least a draw to keep them in the driving seat for qualification to the knockout rounds.

Mario Santana and Marco Marchionni are expected to start on the wings to try and provide some service for Gilardino.

With Liverpool counting on Lyon to do them a favour they can take heart that the French side have won both their away games in the group (including at Anfield of course), but the bad news is that Fiorentina have won both their home games.

Expected line-ups:

Lyon: Lloris, Cris, Boumsong, Clerc, Bastos, Delgado, Pjanić, Gomis, Lisandro, Makoun, Cissokho.

Fiorentina: Frey, Dainelli, Donadel, Pasqual, Vargas, Gilardino, Montolivo, Zanetti, Comotto, Marchionni, Santana.
