Fans are notoriously biased and so are a lot of journalists and pundits and so sometimes it pays to look outside the footballing world to get a true reflection of your teams prospects.

I do it all the time using bookies odds, I find their calculating look at everything is generally fairly reliable and generally speaking they don’t get it wrong that often.

That is why the odds on Liverpool finishing Top Four this have been an eye opener, Liverpool are basically neck and neck with the bookies to finish in fourth spot and make Liverpool favourites to finish above both Aston Villa and Spurs.

Listening to the doomsday merchants you would have thought that Liverpool were in more trouble than Portsmouth but the cold hard facts is that is not the case.

When the bookies take a position they rarely get it wrong and while their odds can be changed to reflect punters money and that their odds also contain a certain amount of an opinion in them they are still more accurate than the what these so called pundits say.

Bookies don’t have knee jerk reactions in the same way Punters do, look at the sack Benitez period a few weeks back, the bookies never made that a favoured outcome, the only ones saying Benitez was for the boot was the press and pundits.

Will Liverpool finish top four? Who really knows, but are they in their with a serious chance? Of course they are and the bookies know it and are taking no chances at all.
