Johnson – Blackburn play ugly football, but Liverpool deserved to win!
The Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes that his team played well enough to beat Blackburn this weekend, and said that they were a very hard team to play against with their “ugly” football.
“I think we deserved to win the game, especially after our second-half performance,” Johnson said.
“I thought we’d scored when I crossed for David but the ball hit the worst bobble I’ve ever seen before his effort came back off the bar.
“Sometimes luck doesn’t go for you but I thought we played the best football and did enough to win the game. We were pushing and pushing and it was so frustrating we couldn’t get that goal our play deserved.
“It’s always difficult to play Blackburn because they don’t play much football and just launch the ball forward at every opportunity. They play an ugly game very well and play to their strengths, and it makes life difficult for the opposition at times.
“We knew what to expect and we tried to get the ball down on the floor and play. The pitch wasn’t great and we took a while to get used to it but that’s football and you have to live with things like this.”
“If you don’t concede goals you don’t lose games and we feel we are getting back to where we want to be,”
“We now have a Champions League game against Fiorentina and we want to win that game in front of our supporters.
“If we can win on Wednesday then that will give us confidence to go into next Sunday’s important game against Arsenal at Anfield.”
Liverpool are in desperate need of a confidence-boosting win, and Arsenal will prove the supreme test next week. Another defeat and the Reds will be left with a mountain to climb.
