News, Views and comment about Liverpool FC

Elimination from the Champions League this week has only added to the speculation that Rafael Benitez is likely to be sacked by Liverpool if this appalling run continues. He is now odds-on with the bookies to not finish the season at Liverpool.

Liverpool’s first win in eleven matches has hardly added confidence as it came against the Hungarian minnows Debrecen, but another failure closer to home this weekend against local rivals Everton will renew calls for Benitez to be sacked. He is now only 7/1 to be the next Premiership manager to be sacked behind Phil Brown and Gary Megson.

As an interesting aside, SkyBet are offering 50/1 that the Europa League Final will be between Liverpool and Everton!

But Liverpool are not the only big team to be in trouble in the Champions League, as Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan are now just one game away from being relegated to the Europa League, alongside Liverpool, if they fail to beat Rubin Kazan in the next match, which has led to rumours that the Special One himself could be discarded for failing in the Champions League.

If so he could become available around the same time as Benitez is sacked, and this has led to the bookies installing him as favourite to take over at Anfield in the near future.

This has led SkyBet to install Mourinho as the 15/8 favourite to be the next Liverpool manager, with the Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish in second place at 11/4.

Roberto Mancini comes next at 7/1 with Jurgen Klinssman at 8/1.

Looking at the other prices on SkyBet i see that Mourinho is also 3/1 favourite to be the next Man utd manager! The Special One has been quoted a couple of times over the last few weeks as saying that he feels his place is in the English Premiership League, so one of these jobs would probably be the only ones he is likely to accept if a position became available.

Hey, still long time to go. Sometimes, changing a manager cannot change the situation. I do believe in Rafa.
