Liverpool "firm favourites" to get Matthew Upson

Upson on his way to Anfield?
The News of the World this morning is very confident that Liverpool will be buying the West Ham midfielder Matthew Upson in January.
They report that West Ham are close to securing the sale of the club to an American-backed consortium for a sum in the region of around £100m.
A source revealed to the NOTW: “At first West Ham did not respond to the interest but they have now been satisfied by the consortiums proof of funds.”There was a satisfactory meeting on Thursday and matters should now move forward quite quickly.
“Within the next couple of weeks, it will become clear about the true state of West Ham’s finances and whether or not the consortium will continue with their offer.”If they are satisfied that 100million is the right price then they will continue. If not they will walk away.
“Should they continue with the takeover then they are ready to allocate funds of up to £30million for new players in the January transfer window.”
They then say that West Ham are going to try hard to persuade Bordeaux to let Marouanr Chamakh join them for a cut-price £5m as he is nearing the end of his contract, and that Liverpool will buy Matthew Upson to add to Gianfranco Zolas much-needed transfer funds.
Upson is expected to be valued at around £10m, and it was said that Rafael Benitez came close to signing him in the summer, and is willing to step up his interest this time around.
