Liverpool transfer rumours Dec 13th – Gerrard, Van Nistelrooy and Mata

Date: 13 Dec 2009 Comments: 6 so far

It was only yesterday that Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez admitted that he had no funds to buy new players, but today the Sunday papers still have a bit of Liverpool transfer news for us to get our teeth into.

The most ridiculous rumour of the day is from the Mirror, who claim that Chelsea are going to make a £30m bid for the Liverpool captan Steven Gerrard.

They say that Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has “told friends” that he will “test Liverpool’s resolve” in the summer with the cheeky bid, but i reckon he must have been either drunk or joking, or both!

In any case it is hardly worth considering, although Gerrard himself has been moaning about the lack of trophies in his career. Would he be more likely to win something at Stamford Bridge?

The same paper has the slightly more believable story that Benitez wants the ex-Man Utd striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy as a stopgap measure in the New Year, but the £100,000 a week wage demand is putting Benitez off. They say that the Spanish manager is trying to get Van Nistelrooy to agree to a pay-as-you-play deal.

The Mirror quotes an “Anfield source” as saying: “There is an interest in Van Nistelrooy, but doing a deal will be very difficult unless something changes financially.

“His fitness record is a big worry. There are some reservations about bringing in a player who has suffered so much with injuries given how the squad has been hit by injuries this season.

“It would be a gamble, so any deal must offer some value for money otherwise it will not happen.”

Well, in that case, it definitely won’t happen! No-one can pay a 33 year-old £100,000 a week, especially just coming back from injury!

The suggestion of the 22 year-old Valencia striker Juan Mata coming to Liverpool is also fraught with difficulties, not the least being Benitez’s need to sell before being able to buy ANYBODY. But Guillem Blague thinks that this is a strong possibility.

He’s not as famous as his colleagues David Villa and David Silva, but hopefully he will be a lot cheaper, and the fact is that Liverpool desperately need a striker, so let’s hope that one is true!

Juan Mata is not a striker; he is a left winger..
I don t see we need another winger..buying him means Benayoun in bench, as Rafa always give kuyt a chance…
      So Benayoun out Mata in.. is not a big deal;
but the main issue is a Centre mid back up; in case Aquialni gets break down.. Lucas had chance; still he didn convince, we may need anothr Centre mid..like Scott Parker or Jermain jenas or huddlestone (Considering our budget)…
I really wish; had Guthrie be still in club.

Try to sell Aquilani and hope someone is foolish enough to purchase the poor man’s Darren Anderton. Not to mention Babel, Leiva, Voronin, Aurelio, Skrtel, Dossenna, El Zhar, Ngog, and Degen.

That should be sufficient (with additional funds. Hah!) to purchase Jean Il Makoun, Yoann Gourcuff, John Arne Riise, Toto Tamuz, Rod Fanni, and Van Der Vaart

    3. Shree says:

What Liverpool really need at the moment is a couple of forwards to support Torres and a winger who can play in either flank. Ngog,Voronin,Kuyt and Babel are just not capable of filling in Torres’s boots when he gets injured. As for the winger, Van der Vaart would fit in nicely in Liverpool. Sell Babel,Voronin,Dossena,Degen and Itandje to get the money to buy these players.
