Steven Gerrard's brother admits cannabis was for personal use

Paul Gerrard, the brother of the Liverpool captain Steven, has told the police that the £200 worth of cannabis found at his home was for personal use.

The police raided his house the morning after his birthday party and found a quantity of drugs and £1,300 in cash. The police have made an application to hold onto the cash as possible “proceeds of crime” pending further investigations.

A police spokesperson, Nicola Murphy, said: “A warrant was executed at the address at 3.40pm on November 27 and the respondent was present at the address and showed officers an amount of cannabis.

“The reason it was there was personal use – he had paid £200 for it.

“An amount of cash – £1,300 – was also seized, and we are asking for a detention of the cash for 90 days.’

The request was granted, and Paul Gerrard’s solicitor declined to make any comment.
