Carlton Cole to stay at West Ham and Dossena to stay at Liverpool!

Two of the most likely Liverpool rumours doing the rounds seem to have been dashed today. The West Ham striker Carlton Cole had been strongly tipped to join Liverpool, to take some of the pressure off Fernando Torres, until he suffered a knee ligament injury against Burnley a couple of weeks ago.

The England striker now expects to recover full fitness in January, but has pledged to stay at Upton Park and help Gianfranco Zola to ease the club away from the relegation zone.

Cole said: “I haven’t heard anything about a move. I love West Ham. I just want to get back to playing and I can’t do anything while I’m injured.

“I have to build up the muscles and do some rigorous rehab work to protect the knee and it is going to be like that for the rest of my career.

“Hopefully, I will be back some time in January. I just need to get back fit and help the Hammers.”

After waiting four months for alberto Aquilani to make his debut, Rafael Benitez could hardly risk buying another expensive star that is still recieving treatment.

It also looked certain that Andrea Dossena would definitely be going back to Italy after publicly announcing that he wanted to leave on many ocassions, but now his agent says a move to Napoli is now on hold unless the Italians come up with a big cash offer to persuade Benitez to let him leave.

Dossena’s agent Roberto La Florio said: “The deal is on hold at the moment as the Reds will not let Dossena go unless they receive a good offer.

“We have to have patience because the situation may change. Napoli and Liverpool have to speak and reach a consensus.

“Napoli want the player, but we have to see what Liverpool say. Rafa Benitez could change his mind and agree to send Dossena on loan which is what De Laurentiis wants.”

Benitez needs cash to fund any purchases so I can’t see him agreeing to a loan deal for anyone at the moment.

Agent says Dossena will leave Liverpool in January

The Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena has been well-documented as desiring to move back to Italy as soon as possible, in a bid to revive his flagging international career ahead of next year’s World Cup in South Africa. Well it seems that he is going to get his wish, according to the player’s agent, Roberto La Florio.

La Florio said: “There is a good chance that Andrea Dossena will return to Italy in January.

“He would be happy to do so and we hope that there is the opportunity for interested clubs to meet Liverpool.

“Napoli have for a long time expressed a greater desire than other team to acquire the player. We are in the window. It all depends on the two clubs.

“Roma have also been talked about even though I personally haven’t had any official contact.

“This year, Andrea should have been able to play more games, but he has had physical problems and has not been able to profit from Fabio Aurelio’s long spell on the sidelines.

“I could see Dossena doing well at Milan. There was an inquiry from the Rossoneri last summer. I believe that after Fabio Grosso, Dossena is the best Italian player in his position.”

This may just be more agent-speak as he is looking to do a deal in January, but both the player and his agent have been saying that he is leaving for ages now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened anyway.

Napoli want Dossena

The Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena has made no secret of the fact that he wants to return to Italy to get some first team football, and now Napoli have confirmed that they are willing to give him that chance.

“It is clear that in January Napoli will sign new players, especially in the role of Dossena,” said the Italian agent Roberto La Florio.

“We’ll see in January if there are opportunities to return to Italy and play – we are interested because Dossena wants to go to the World Cup.

“Napoli is the Italian team that has pushed most for Dossena and according to me it would be the perfect solution for him.”

Dossena is still desperate to play, and has recovered from his groin injury. Benitez picked him to sit on the bench in last weeks Carling Cup game against Arsenal, but didn’t put him on the pitch.

He should again be on the bench against Lyon on Wednesday, but will Benitez finally give him a game?
