Torres – I wasn't 100% but i just had to play!
The Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has admitted he was nowhere near full fitness to face Man Utd, but he just decided he had to play through the pain barrier to get on the pitch. He had to have some pain-killing injections in his groin, but he still said he found it hard to hit the ball as easily as usual.
“I feel a bit of pain when I shoot across so I could only shoot towards the near post – it was the only thing I could do!
“Now we have a bit of confidence but we have to keep it going on Wednesday in the Carling Cup against Arsenal.
“Then we have to be focused for Fulham. But we feel like a strong team again because we’re working all together like in the past.”
He added “I was not 100 per cent fit but I wanted to play and it was worth it.
“We knew it was going to be a risk and I felt some pain in some of the movements that I made before hand but during the game it was OK.
“I just wanted to play so much. When the team is losing and not playing well, it is so hard to watch and you just want to help.
“It was like Stevie (Gerrard) in the Champions League game. He wanted to play, he wasn’t fit but he is the leader of the team.”
It was lucky he did play as he got the first goal. Hopefully it won’t have caused too much damage and he will be fit enough to face Fulham next week.
