Torres – We are off the pace but let's focus on the future
The Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has come out in support of manager Rafael Benitez, and is certain that the Spaniard will manage to pull the club out of their recent slump.
He has reiterated that he intends to see out the four remaining years left on his contract, and he expects to Benitez to be there for the whole time. He also believes that the team needs to forget about the bad start to the season and concentrating on the future.
“Right now I don’t see myself playing elsewhere,” Torres said.
“It looked like this was going to be our season, but it’s turned out very differently from what we expected.
“We’ve lost more games this season than in the previous two put together, but we have to keep pushing forward.
“Rafa’s going to prove just why he is so well respected in the game, and he’s going to turn this situation around.
“I still have four years left on my contract and my future is here, it’s not linked to Rafa’s, but I hope that we can see out our contracts here together.

Torres added: “It’s not been a great season so far. We are out of two competitions, the Carling Cup and the Champions League, and we are also a little off the pace in the league. But we still have the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League to look forward to.
“We have to focus on what lies ahead instead of looking back at what we can no longer win. The team have not done the business in the league, but the season is still young.”
